FAQ

I would like my business to become a sponsor or partner with iKare4Kids, who do I contact?2021-06-21T18:49:27+00:00

Send an email to [email protected] to connect with our team to discuss this further.  iKare4Kids can provide business letters of contributions, for tax purposes, to businesses that sponsor iKare4Kids.

I want to support the iKare4Kids Program but I do not have a gently used iPad/Tablet, how can I help?2021-06-21T18:48:29+00:00

There are a number of ways to support iKare4Kids such as, becoming a volunteer on our team, being an advocate and sharing our social media posts and website, financial donations, purchasing an iPad and/or tablet to donate, fundraising on our behalf, doing a device drive in an effort to collect devices from other people, businesses, clubs, schools etc., to mention just a few.

What happens to the devices that are rendered unusable?2021-06-21T18:47:26+00:00

iKare4Kids proudly keeps these devices out of our landfill and they are submitted to a company that recycles these devices, for a small financial rebate in return.  This money goes back into the iKareKids program.

Do I have to do more than just a factory reset for my iPad/Tablet?2021-08-13T20:49:50+00:00

Yes, you must ensure that all screen passwords are deleted and you are logged out of all accounts, such as find my iPad, iTunes etc. or this will render the device unusable. See our Donate a Device page for a complete list of the donated device requirements.

Will iKare4Kids accept iPad/Tablet accessories?2021-07-08T20:15:51+00:00

Yes, we accept undamaged charging cords, AC Adapters and cases as many donations come without these items.  Additionally we accept bluetooth keyboards and mouse/mice which turn an iPad/Tablet into a mini laptop that helps make the device more efficient for the older kids to do online schooling.  iKare4Kids also accepts iPad/Tablet holders (“iBolts), like those used on the back of a headrest in cars, because these work in hospital cribs as well as if the child is incapable of holding the device.

Will iKare4Kids accept cell phones as a donation?2021-07-08T20:16:37+00:00

No, we don’t. iPads and tablets are much more user friendly for children.

I have a used laptop that still works, will you accept this as a donation?2021-06-21T18:41:59+00:00

No, unfortunately, the hard drive holds memory even if you have deleted information and replacing the hard drive is too expensive, therefore, we cannot accept these as donations, unless they were brand new.

Do I need to provide anything when I drop off my donated device?2021-06-21T18:41:07+00:00

Yes, please download and complete the PDF donation form and secure this to your donated device with an elastic band so that it does not get separated from the donation.  We take confidentiality seriously, therefore, it is important that we have your contact information and whether or not you consent to allow us to share this information with Technology Helps in case they have any questions for you when they are refurbishing the device.  Your personal information will not be shared with anyone else.  There is an option on the donation form if you would like to provide a small testimonial and if you choose to have your gift/testimonial remain anonymous.  Additionally, the device information is very helpful for our team when we are cataloging and processing all of the donations.

How can I ensure all of my information is wiped off of the device before being repurposed to an iKare4Kids family/child?2021-06-21T18:38:16+00:00

All gently used devices that are donated to iKare4Kids, goes to our IT partner, Technology Helps, where they ensure that the device is in good working order and that it is free of all information.

What do you mean by “gently used” iPad or Tablet?2021-06-21T18:35:49+00:00

The device has to be in good working order, that maintains a charge, no cracked screens, and the camera is in good working order.

I have an iPad older than a 4th generation or a tablet that is older than 4 years old, can I still donate it to the iKare4Kids Program?2021-06-21T18:51:06+00:00

Unfortunately no because the IOS will no longer update, which renders these devices unusable for the families and children.

How long does it take to process my application and hear back from the iKare4Kids team whether or not we are approved for the program?2021-06-21T18:50:13+00:00

We strive to keep the turn around time to complete an application to one week.  Once your application is processed, you will be contacted by one of the iKare4Kids team members to advise you of the results.  If you have been approved, they will also make arrangements to drop off a device to you (following COVID restrictions and guidelines).

Is the information I provide confidential?2021-07-26T23:47:39+00:00

Yes, the information is only shared with the iKare4Kids Team to process your application and it will not be shared with anyone else, unless you explicitly consent to sharing a photo/video and/or bio of your child’s medical journey. We have consent forms available if this is something you choose, but it is completely on a volunteer basis and not a requirement of the program.
The iKare4Kids team members are required to have completed Criminal Records Check, Vulnerable Persons Checks (if they are actively donating and meeting the families/children in person) and each team member signs a Code of Conduct that includes a confidentiality agreement.

Can someone else fill out the form on our behalf?2021-06-21T18:27:42+00:00

If you give consent to that person, absolutely someone can assist you with filling out the form and submitting it to iKare4Kids for processing.

No, your child only has to be receiving treatment in Edmonton, AB, but your primary residence could be elsewhere in Canada. iKare4Kids have helped support families as far away as Nova Scotia whose child was receiving treatment in Edmonton.

How does iKare4Kids verify the information in the application form to ensure we qualify for the program?2021-06-21T18:30:40+00:00

The application form asks for a professional reference (Social Worker, Child Life Specialist, Medical staff etc.) that is familiar with your situation to speak with us to verify the information.  You are giving us consent to speak with them, however, please ensure you advise the professional reference that you have given consent.

Can I use a family or friend as a professional reference?2021-06-21T18:30:57+00:00

No, it has to be an impartial professional that is involved in your child’s medical journey.
