WHAT DO WE DO?
While volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Alberta, it was realized that in this technologically advanced world many children's files and treatment plans are now electronic. Due to the financial crisis that many families of sick children are in, some parents do not have the funds to buy a iPads/tablets to hold this vital information. No one plans for a child to become deathly ill and end up in the hospital.
To see the absolute JOY these devices brings to these youngsters who are receiving life-saving treatment is remarkable. They can be isolated, depressed and bored while in the hospital. Remember these children are not afforded the privilege of a traditional classroom education and often they can utilize these devices for educational purposes.
These iPads/tablets serve multi purposes for these families:
By re-purposing old unwanted electronic devices, iKare4Kids is not only creating a program to help reduce the footprint on our environment, but in addition, we are using these devices to help support families during a very difficult time.
*Note: You DO NOT have to be registered at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Alberta to apply to the iKare4Kids program.
